Terms of Service

Reservoir saves links, photos, PDFs and notes to a library on your phone, keeps a readable copy of saved pages so they survive link rot, and helps you organise what you keep. Using it means agreeing to these terms.

Your account

Reservoir requires an account. Your library, your saves and your settings are tied to it, and signing in is what makes them available on your other devices. Keep your credentials to yourself — you are responsible for activity under your account. You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live, and at least 13.

What you save is yours

You keep all rights to the content you save, the notes you write and the collections you build. We claim no ownership of it.

You grant us only the narrow permission needed to run the service: to store your content, transmit it between your devices, and — only if you publish a collection or share a save — serve the specific fields listed in the Privacy Policy to the people it is shared with, and show what you add to someone else's shared save to the people on that share. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account.

Saved copies of other people's content

Reservoir keeps a readable copy of pages you save so your library survives the original going offline. If you archive a save, it keeps the whole page — its text, its images and its styling, stored as a single file. Both copies are for your personal reference: stored for you, shown to you, not published.

Archiving is something you ask for, one page at a time. Nothing keeps a complete copy unless you say so, and stopping deletes ours.

Archiving is a paid feature, and the complete copy does not outlive the subscription indefinitely. If your subscription ends, we keep the complete copies for ninety days and then remove ours. You keep the readable text of every save, which is what the free tier gets, and you keep any copy already on your own device — we delete what we are storing, not what you have.

You are responsible for having lawful access to what you save. Do not use Reservoir to copy content you are not entitled to access, to get around a paywall or access control, or to build a redistributable archive of someone else’s work.

Publishing a collection does not republish the articles. It shares titles, excerpts, source links and thumbnails — a list of what you collected, pointing at the originals. Do not present a published collection as though the underlying works were yours.

Sharing a save does not republish the article either. It shares your note, the passages you highlighted and your comments on them, and a link to the original. You are responsible for what you share and for what you write on other people's shares; highlight to point at something, not to reproduce a work in pieces.

If you are a rights holder and believe something published through Reservoir infringes your rights, write to us and we will act on it, including removing the material and, where appropriate, terminating the account responsible.

Acceptable use

Do not use Reservoir to store or publish anything unlawful; to infringe others’ rights; to harass anyone; to distribute malware; to attack, overload or probe the service or the sites it fetches; or to work around the checks that decide what your plan includes. Do not use automated means to bulk-harvest content through the app. We may suspend or close accounts that do these things.

Paid subscriptions

The paid tier adds keeping complete copies of pages, Recall, and the AI synthesis features. Saving and syncing are not metered and do not differ between plans.

Subscriptions are sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play, or on the web through Stripe, which is the seller of record for a web purchase. Billing, renewal, refunds and cancellation are handled by whichever of those sold it, under its own terms — we cannot process a refund on Apple’s or Google’s behalf. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled: in your store account settings for a phone purchase, or on the billing page Reservoir opens for a web one. Prices may change with notice, taking effect at the next renewal.

A free trial, where one is offered, runs for the period stated at the time and becomes a paid subscription unless you cancel before it ends. One trial per person, and the store decides who is eligible.

If a payment fails or a subscription lapses, paid features stop. Your library stays on your device and keeps syncing, which is not a paid feature. Complete page copies are removed ninety days later, as the section on saved copies describes; the readable text of every save stays.

AI features, and what they are worth

Reservoir generates summaries, tag suggestions, collection names and weekly digests. These are produced by machine-learning models and can be wrong, incomplete or misleading. Treat them as a convenience, not as fact, and do not rely on them for anything consequential. You are free to edit or delete anything the app suggests; that is the intended way to use it.

On-device AI depends on your hardware and operating system. Devices that cannot run it get the rest of the app in full — this is a supported way to use Reservoir, not a fault.

Availability

We aim to keep the service running but do not promise uninterrupted availability, and may change, suspend or discontinue features. If we discontinue the service we will give reasonable notice and a way to export what is stored on our servers. Because your library is on your device, the app keeps working for what is already saved even when the service is unavailable.

Ending it

You may stop using Reservoir at any time, and delete your account from Settings — which deletes your server-side data as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, and will tell you why unless we are legally prevented from doing so.

Disclaimers and liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Reservoir is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, including fitness for a particular purpose, or that saved copies will always be complete, accurate or retrievable. Keep your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits or goodwill. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or ten units of your local currency.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and if you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

Governing law, changes and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta, Canada, and disputes will be handled by its courts, without prejudice to consumer-protection rights you have where you live.

We may update these terms. Material changes will be shown in the app before taking effect, and continuing to use Reservoir after that means accepting them.
